  1. I think Emily is stuck trying to anthropomorphize HaShem. She talked about how there’s not a human figure up in the sky planning everything. To me, that idea would surely make people into atheists really quick. HaShem is actually everything and has no human form. You could say HaShem is the spark in everything. If Emily would take the time to reinvent her conception of HaShem she may find she actually does believe.

    As far as HaShem controlling everything, that is clearly not the case. We have our free will but we DO operate within the natural laws that HaShem has constructed. For example, there’s the concept of Karma, where everything goes around and comes around. If someone does me wrong, eventually that catches up to them and they get a lesson. This is not exactly HaShem pushing buttons to make this happen. It’s really about HaShem’s natural laws that are always functioning which produces the result.
